#2 Texas 41, #1 Southern California 38 Wednesday, January 4, 2006 Rose Bowl (Pasadena, Calif.) -- National Championship
After Vince Young's touchdown cut the USC lead to 5 with time dwindling down in the Rose Bowl, the focus shifted to the Texas Defense. USC's offense had been unstoppable in the second half, but the defense would have to get the ball back into Vince Young's hands without giving up any more points if Texas was going to have a chance to win their 4th National Championship. It came down to a 4th and 2 for USC with just 2:13 to play. With Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush on the sideline, former Heisman winner Matt Leinert handed the ball to Lendale White, who plunged into the line trying to pick up the first down and seal another championship for the Trojans. But the Texas Defense stiffened and stuffed White short of the first down. Once the chains were brought out and confirmed the turn over on downs, Vince Young was set up to pull out another victory for the Longhorns, this time for the National Championship.
